Question: When was Leighton established?
 Answer: The company was established in Australia in 1949 by Stanley Leighton, and has since grown from a small privately owned civil engineering firm into a dynamic group of companies. Leighton Holdings Limited is the parent company  and operates through a number of diverse and independent operating entities: Thiess, Leighton Contractors, John Holland, Leighton Properties, Leighton Asia, Leighton Welspun, Leighton Offshore, the Habtoor Leighton Group, Leighton Africa and Devine.

Answer: The Leighton Group’s Operating Companies provide development, construction, contract mining, and operation and maintenance services to the infrastructure, resources and property markets. The Company provides a corporate governance structure and financial strength to enable the Operating Companies to compete effectively in the global market place. Answer: Protection of the environment is a core value of the Leighton Group, which has established standards of operational practices, ensuring that even on the largest of projects, environmental impacts are kept to a minimum.

 

The Leighton Group has an Environmental and Health & Safety Policy, which aims to maintain high standards and encourage continual improvement of our environmental management systems.

 

All subsidiaries within the Group are obliged to adopt policies and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) that facilitate the least possible disruption to the environment and a project's surroundings.

 

The Group’s environmental performance is disclosed in the ‘Directors’ Report’ of the Leighton Concise Annual Report 2011.

Answer: The health and safety of our workforce is more than a compliance issue. Leighton Holdings is committed to developing and maintaining a safety-conscious culture throughout the Group. We believe in creating a safe, challenging and fun workplace, while striving to ensure employees return home each day in the same health and condition as when they arrived at work.

 

Our commitment to safety starts at Board level. The Board sets the Group’s Safety Policy and oversees the Group’s safety performance through a review of quarterly performance reports from each of the operating companies.
