Description:  

Thiess and John Holland have been awarded a contract by BrisConnections to deliver the Airport Link project in Brisbane, Queensland. It is Australia's largest road infrastructure project set  to cut congestion and fix one of Brisbane's most notorious bottlenecks.

The project scope includes the construction of the Airport Link toll road, Northern Busway (Windsor to Kedron) and Airport Roundabout Upgrade.

Airport Link will be a 6.7 kilometre mulit-lane electronic free-flow tollroad with dual 5.7 kilometre tunnels. Upon completion, Airport Link will connect Brisbane's CBD, the North-South Bypass Tunnel and the Inner City Bypass with Brisbane's northern suburbs and Brisbane Airport. It will also serve as a key distribution road, connection some of Brisbane's major destinations such as the CBD, Royal Brisbane Hospital, Chermside Shopping Centre, Brisbane Airport and Australia TradeCoast.

Under the contract, Thiess and John Holland will also design and construct a section of the Northern Busway between Windsor and Kedron and an upgrade of the East-West Arterial/ Airport Drive/ Gateway Motorway interchange at Brisbane Airport, referred to as the Airport Roundabout Upgrade. 

The project is expected to have a significant impact in reducing traffic congestion in Brisbane.
