Thiess has been awarded the Brighton Bypass (Northern Section) project to upgrade the Midland Highway to the north of Hobart, Tasmania by the Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources (DIER).
The upgrade will bypass the towns of Brighton and Pontville, significantly improving connections to the developing Brighton Industrial Estate and future Brighton Transport Hub, residential and retail centres in Brighton and to the historic settlement of Pontville.
The project comprises a northern and southern section. Thiess and joint venture partners VEC Civil Engineering were recently awarded a contract for the early contractor involvement (ECI) phase for the northern section.
The Brighton Bypass (Northern Section) project will ultimately see the design and construction of a 6.5km dual carriageway highway, 10 major structures and associated works.
During the ECI phase, the VEC Thiess Joint Venture will work closely with DIER to develop a scope and estimate for the project before a Design and Construct contract is awarded for its delivery.
The Midland Highway is the State’s major north-south transport corridor and a key link in Tasmania’s AusLink National Network. The Brighton Bypass will address traffic movement, safety and amenity issues associated with a major freight route passing through the local towns of Brighton and Pontville.
