Brighton Bypass (Southern Section)

Client:  Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources
Location:  Tasmania
Start:  October 2009
Finish:  April 2012
Contract Type:  Construct (Joint venture)
Value:  $104 million, John Holland's share is $57 million (at 31 December 2010)
Description:

John Holland, in joint venture with Hazell Bros, has been awarded a contract to construct the southern section of the Brighton Bypass as well as a transport hub for Tasmania's Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.

The project involves the construction of a new dual carriageway highway between the East Derwent Highway at Bridgwater and the existing Midland Highway north of Pontville, of which the Hazell-Holland JV is responsible for the southern section. Also included are grade interchanges and rail/road crossings.

The transport hub will span a total area of approximately 50 hectares with provision for warehousing adjoining the rail intermodal and additional land for freight-related commercial development.

Upon completion, the project will improve efficiency in the movement of goods between rail and road transport in Southern Tasmania, and improve safety for the large volume of traffic on the Midland Highway.
