Client:  Department of Main Roads
Location:  Queensland
Start:  November 2007
Finish:  January 2010
Contract Type:  Construct only
Value:  $132 million (at 30 June 2009)
Description:

Leighton Contractors was awarded a construction contract by the Department of Main Roads to build the next major link for Queensland's Bruce Highway. Leighton Contractors undertook works between Uhlmann Road and the Bribie Island overpass. The 6km project was the final section in a larger project to upgrade the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Caboolture.

The scope of works included:
  • widening of the highway to six lanes
  • upgrading the Caboolture/Bribie Island Road split interchange, and
  • widening of the Caboolture River bridges and Bribie Island overpass bridge with associated on and off ramps.

The project completed the Federal Government's plan to upgrade the Bruce Highway between Brisbane and Caboolture, leading to improved safety and reduced traffic congestion for commuters.
