Bulk Water Alliance

Description:  

John Holland, as part of an alliance with client ACTEW, Abigroup and GHD, is delivering a Program of Works for the Water Security of Canberra and the surrounding region, comprising three separate projects.

These projects include: 
  • The Enlargement of the Cotter Dam
  • Construction of the Murrumbidgee River to Googong Reservoir pipeline via Burra Creek
  • The Upgrade of the spillway at Googong Dam.

The Cotter Dam enlargement involves construction of a 76-metre high roller compacted concrete wall with 50-metre wide crest, which will take the capacity of the existing dam from four to 78 gigalitres. Construction works commenced in January 2010.

The Murrumbidgee to Googong project involves construction of a new pipeline, enabling the transfer of up to 125 megalitres of raw water per day to the Googong Dam via Burra Creek. Construction works commenced in January 2011.

The Googong Dam Spillway upgrade involved remedial works to the existing spillway adjacent to the main dam. The works included anchoring, bulk excavation including drill & blast, spillway chute extension and construction of 17m high training walls including extension of existing training walls. Works were completed in December 2010.
