Thiess entered into a Life-of-mine mining contract with the Collinsville Coal Company, located 80km south-west of Bowen in North Queensland. Coal extracted from the mine is sold to a range of domestic and international customers.  

The Collinsville Coal Mine produces up to six product coal types for export and domestic customers.  Mine planning and operations are complex, requiring the blending of seven coal seams to comply with the product coal specifications.

Thiess’ work scope includes the operation and maintenance of the existing mine infrastructure, including a coal preparation plant.  This washplant is a conventional Dense Medium Cyclone plant consisting of two modules.  Fine coal treatment is performed by spirals, with slimes being disposed of to tailings.

The project operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with two 12 hour shifts per day.
