Description:
Thiess, as part of an Alliance with Parsons Brinckerhoff Australia Pty Ltd, was awarded a contract by the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) to design and construct a 33km dual carriageway upgrade of the Pacific Highway from Coopernook to Herons Creek.
There were two sections to the Pacific Highway upgrade project which included Coopernook to Moorland extending for 10.3km, and Moorland to Herons Creek extending for 22km.
The project scope for the Coopernook to Herons Creek upgrade included:
- 33km of separated dual carriageway generally following the existing highway
- western bypasses of the villages of Moorland and Johns River and an eastern bypass of Kew
- new twin bridges at Two Mile Creek, Moorland railway bridge, Forest Road overbridge, Pipe Clay Creek, Holey Flat Creek, Tom Cat Creek, Stewarts River Road overbridge, Stewarts River, Stoney Creek, Ross Glen railway bridge, Camden Haven River, Ocean Drive overbridge, Walkers Creek and Herons Creek
- protection and management of fauna movement across the highway will include fauna crossings and fauna exclusion fencing
- truck lay-bys, emergency telephone bays and cross-carriageway accesses
- urban design and landscaping along the length of the new highway, and
- traffic noise attenuation measures.
The Coopernook to Herons Creek Pacific Highway Upgrade aims to signficantly reduce road accidents and injuries, travel time, freight transport costs, and provide a route that supports economic development for the region.
