Ipswich Motorway Upgrade - Wacol to Darra

Description:  

Leighton Contractors, as part of the SAFElink Alliance, was awarded a contract by the Department of Main Roads to design and construct the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade - Wacol to Darra. Leighton Contractors joined Main Roads, BMD Constructions, Arup and Maunsell Australia in the SAFElink Alliance to deliver the road upgrade.

The works completed by the alliance included:
  • widening the Ipswich Motorway from four to six lanes
  • widening the Centenary Highway interchange to a multi level system interchange
  • construction of new bridges over Bullockhead and Sandy Creeks and the Ipswich rail line at Centenary Highway
  • removal of motorway access and exit points at Campbell Avenue and Akenside Street at Wacol, and Bullockhead Street at Sumner
  • provision of new pedestrian and cyclist paths; and
  • constructing earthworks and bridge works for Darra to Springfield rail line passing through the Centenary Highway interchange.

Now complete, the Ipswich Motorway Upgrade serves to improve safety and traffic flow, reduce congestion and travel times for commuters.
