Leighton Contractor's mining division, HWE Mining, was awarded a contract at the Koolyanobbing Iron Ore Mine by Portman Mining.

The mine is located 425 kilometres east of Perth and approximately 50 kilometres north-east of the town of Southern Cross, Western Australia.

Portman was responsible for drilling the orebodies using conventional diamond cutting and drilling methods, whilst HWE Mining's scope of works included mining, crushing and screening.  HWE Mining used a range of equipment, including a fleet of excavators, capacity trucks, graders, dozers and water trucks at the mine site.
