Leighton Group companies Leighton Asia and John Holland, in joint venture with Balfour Beatty and Kumagai Gumi, secured a design and construct rail project in Hong Kong for the Kowloon Canton Rail Corporation (KCRC).
The new contract formed part of the KCRC’s Kowloon Southern Link project, which now links West Rail and East Rail between Nam Cheong station and the new East Tsim Sha Tsui station.
Leighton Asia's scope of works included the design and construction of the 3.8km underground twin track rail link from Nam Cheong to East Tsim Sha Tsui station.
John Holland previously completed a design and construct contract to build two 1km long tunnels with a diametre of 7 metres, an underground station, and 200m of cut and cover tunnels to connect the existing East Rail tunnels with the new tunnels.
