Client:  VicRoads
Location:  Victoria
Start:  July 2009
Finish:  2012
Contract Type:  Construct (Alliance)
Value:  $583 million (at 30 June 2011)
Description:

The Tulla Sydney Alliance, a partnership between VicRoads, Thiess, Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB) and Hyder, has been awarded the first contract of works for the Victorian and Australian Government’s M80 Ring Road Upgrade Project to improve the Western and Metropolitan Ring Roads.

The M80 Ring Road Upgrade project extends 38km from the Princes Freeway at Laverton North to the Greensborough Highway at Greensborough and will be delivered in stages to minimise the impact on road users. The first area to be upgraded is a 9.7km section, which extends from near the Calder Freeway to Sydney Road. It will be delivered by the Tulla Sydney Alliance.

The Tulla Sydney Alliance works will include:
  • widening to three lanes in each direction and a fourth lane between some interchanges
  • intelligent transport systems such as ramp metering and variable message signs to manage traffic flow
  • reconfigured freeway interchanges and ramps, and
  • landscaping and urban design.

The project will significantly improve safety, ease congestion, reduce travel times and improve reliability for all road users.
