Description:

Southern Gateway Alliance, comprising Leighton Contractors, WA Limestone and GHD were selected by Main Roads as the preferred proponent to build the new Mandurah Entrance Road. The project was jointly funded by the Federal and Western Australian Governments.

The seven kilometre Mandurah Entrance Road is a key piece of infrastructure, linking the State’s largest ever road project, the Kwinana Freeway extension - Forrest Highway, to a major regional centre.

The scope of works included:
  • 6.5 kilometres of 4 lane dual carriageway, 4 kilometres of which straddle the passenger railway line
  • the existing Fremantle railway tunnel which was extended by 170 metres and a new railway tunnel (220 metres in length) constructed at Parklands (future location of Road B intersection)
  • a 0.5 kilometre Stock Road link to the north
  • intersections at Mandurah Rd and Stock Road north (Lakelands)
  • an interchange at the Kwinana Freeway extension (integrated with the construction of Kwinana Freeway extension)
  • provision for on road cycling and a pedestrian underpass that connects Black Swan Lake (Lakelands) with Marlee Reserve (Parklands) and allow for future facilities in the area as development occurs
  • 3.5 kilometres of Mechanically Stabilised Earth (MSE) retaining walls
  • 2 fauna underpasses and exclusion fencing for fauna; and
  • noise walls, revegetation/landscaping and public art.

The Mandurah Entrance Road now provides a free flowing alternative for Mandurah, and reduces traffic congestion on minor local roads.
