Description:  

Leighton Asia* was awarded a mining contract for the provision of open cut mining works in the Tenggarong region of East Kalimantan by PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU).

The project scope included:
  • land clearing
  • drilling and blasting
  • loading and hauling overburden
  • coal mining and haulage of coal to port.

The MHU Coal Mine includes two active pits, one located 23 kilometres from the port, and the second located 40 kilometres from the port.

*As at 9 April 2009, operational responsibility for Leighton International's Indonesian activities were transferred to Leighton Asia to better align the geography of the market with the management of the Group's operations in Asia.
