Leighton Contractors has been providing mining services at the Moorvale Coal Mine for Macarthur Coal Limited since 2003. The Moorvale mine is located at Bowen Basin, Queensland, 12km from the Coppabella Mine.
Leighton undertakes all of the mine planning and surface mining operations and is responsible for developing the greenfield site. Moorvale is an extremely narrow mine and has deeply dipping coal seams with a number of fault lines which required a great deal of expertise in both the planning and working of the pit.
The Moorvale mine produces around 2.4 million tonnes of coal a year.
Leighton Contractors had been operating at the mine site since 1999, and provided mining services for past clients such as Australian Premium Coals (APC).
