Leighton Contractors was awarded the Northern Access Road project in Brisbane, Queensland, by Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC).
This new road infrastructure was put in place to meet the growing demand for access to Brisbane Airport. Now complete it provides Airport users and tenants a second major access route to the terminals and on-Airport businesses. It also connects the new Gateway Motorway to the Domestic and International Terminals.
The project included 6km of multi-lane motorway with four bridges, a new roundabout and the upgrades of the existing roundabout at the International Terminal and Lomandra Drive Interchange.
Airport Drive continues to act as the primary carrier of traffic to and from the Airport in an east-wet direction, while the Northern Access Road is the primary Airport access for those traveling in a north-south direction along the Gateway deviation. The Northern Acess Road project is expected to carry up to 50,000 vehicles per day from the Gateway Interchange by 2015.
