Description:  

Ocean Park awarded Leighton Asia a construction contract for the expansion and redevelopment of its Hong Kong theme park. The project scope included the construction of an entry plaza, aquarium, restaurant and retail facilities, lagoons and landscaping.

The Entry Plaza includes an elevated landscape plaza on a podium with various facilities such as ticketing, turnstiles, guest relations, banking, food and beverage, and retail outlets. Various back of house facilities were built beneath the podium, such as a central kitchen, staff canteen, parking, as well as a drop-off zone for vehicles.

Now completed, Aqua City comprises of a lagoon built partially above the podium with food and beverage facilities, entertainment attractions and associated area development and infrastructure works.

The Grand Aquarium is a world class marine life exhibition facility with a main tank capacity in excess of 5 million litres and some 20 smaller tanks. The Grand Aquarium incorporates animal life support systems, lighting and audio visual special effects, dining and retail facilities and associated utility supplies.

Construction works involved the fixing of 10,000 tonnes of reinforcement steel and pouring of 65,000 cubic metres of concrete.
