Description:

Al Habtoor Leighton Group was awarded a contract to design and construct the new Paris-Sorbonne University campus at Al Reem Island in Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala Development Company. The project was undertaken in joint venture with Murray and Roberts.

The project involved the design and construction of a 93,000 square metre educational facility on a greenfield site to be completed in two distinct phases to allow for earlier opening and operational use.

The academic buildings were grouped around a circular plaza, at the heart of which is a landmark 25-metre high domed cupola, which is modelled on the iconoic tower of the university's Paris campus. Radiating from this central plaza is two lecture wings, the library, auditorium, administrative building and a dining hall.

The student residences, sports and recreational facilities are constructed above three levels of parking. The students are housed in separate five-storey male and female accommodation blocks.

Both the academic and residential areas are linked by a pathway offering panoramic views, and the entire campus is attractively landscaped.

Now complete, the new Paris-Sorbonne University campus is a prestigious landmark facility for its students, tutors and administrative personnel.
