Description:  

Leighton Contractors' Mining Division was awarded a contract extension to develop the Poitrel coal mine project in central Queensland owned by BHP Mitsui Coal Pty Ltd (BMC). Poitrel is located 35 kilometres south east of Moranbah in central Queensland.

Leighton Contractors have been working with BMC at Poitrel since 2006. Coal from Poitrel is now processed at a new coal preparation plant as part of an agreement with Millennium Coal (a subsidiary of Excel Coal Limited).

During the project, Leighton Contractors mobilised new equipment comprising a fleet of eleven Caterpillar 793 trucks and two new O&K RH340 excavators.
