Saadiyat Link Expressway

Description:  

Al Habtoor Leighton Group was awarded a contract by Abu Dhabi's Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) for a 6.5 kilometre expressway to link Abu Dhabi city with Saadiyat Island.

The project involved the construction of a 10 lane highway, including:
  • all associated side roads
  • 6 bridges with a total deck length of 1.6 kilometres
  • an 870 metre tunnel
  • 10.7 kilometres of stormwater drainage
  • 22.3 kilometres of sewerage system
  • a 30 kilometre portable water network, and
  • various mechanical and electrical works.

Saadiyat Island is a 27 kilometre natural island lying just 500 metres offshore the United Arab Emirates capital, and was one of the most important development opportunities in Abu Dhabi's history. The island has been developed as a strategic international tourism destination.
