Description:  

In 2000, Thiess secured one of its largest ever mining contracts with the award of a long-term contract with PT Arutmin Indonesia to operate the Senakin and Satui Mines in South Kalimantan. 

The initial contract saw Thiess responsible for the complete operation of the mines, including all coal mining, mine planning, stripping and waste disposal, coal crushing and washing, coal transportation and loading, environmental rehabilitation and quality control work.

Thiess Indonesia extended its Alliance Contract in October 2003 with PT Arutmin (owned by Bumi Resources) for the operation and expansion of the Senakin and Satui Coal mines to a life of mine contract.

Thiess is responsible for the complete operation of the mines, including  mine planning, stripping and waste disposal, coal mining, crushing, washing, quality control, transportation, loading on to  PT Arutmin barges, and also progressive  environmental rehabilitation on completion  of mining operations.
