Sonoma Coal Mine

Description:  

Leighton Contractors’ Mining Division has been awarded a contract  for the Sonoma Coal project which is situated in the Bowen Basin, 200 kilometres north-west of Mackay and 6km south of Collinsville in Queensland.

Under the contract Leighton Contractors will perform bulk excavation and selective coal mining.

The Sonoma project is expected to initially produce 2.3 million tonnes of coal annually increasing to 3.8 million tonnes per annum and includes an approximately equal mix of hard coking coal and thermal coal. Product coal will be railed approximately 105km to the Abbot Point Coal Terminal for export.

Leighton has been providing mining services at Sonoma Coal Mine since 2007.
