Description:
OneSteel Manufacturing has awarded a contract to HWE Mining, a division of Leighton Contractors, to develop the next phase of the South Middlebank Ranges (SMR) project located 80 kilometres west of Whyalla, in the Eyre Peninsular of South Australia.
The development involves commercialising the mine's vast magnetite iron ore resource, where the ore is processed on site, pelletised and used as feedstock at the Whyalla Steelworks. The remaining ore mined from SMR is then sold to international markets.
HWE Mining provides a complete mining service at SMR including:
- drilling and blasting
- loading and hauling
- train loading
- infrastructure management
- maintenance, and
- other related services.
