Leighton Asia has secured a mining contract at Ukhaa Khudag Coal Mine for Energy Resources LLC, and is Leighton's first project in Mongolia. The open cut mine sits adjacent to the world renowned Tavan Tolgoi deposit in the South Gobi region of Mongolia, some 200 kilometres from the China border and 540 kilometres from Ulaanbaatar.

The scope of works for project includes:
  • pit de-watering
  • drill and blast
  • overburden removal
  • load and haul of coal
  • loading of ROM coal into the client's transport
