Description:  

Leighton Asia* has been awarded a contract for the provision of open cut mining services at the Wahana coal mine in Satui, South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

Leighton will provide project management, mine planning, surveying, supervision, site security, materials, equipment, equipment maintenance, labour, transportation, medical services, consumables and site infrastructure required to carry out the works.

The mining will be carried out through a conventional open pit truck or shovel operation, with a requirement for drill and blast. The haulage of the coal over a distance of 22 kilometres will be undertaken from the crusher located at the mine site to the port.

*As of 9 April 2009, operational responsibility for Leighton International's Indonesian activities were transferred to Leighton Asia to better align the geography of the market with the management of the Group's operations in Asia.
