John Holland's mining division, Marshall Mining and Earthmoving, was awarded a contract at Werris Creek Coal Mine by Werris Creek Coal Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of Whitehaven Coal Mining.
Werris Creek Coal Mine is a medium scale open cut coal mine, located approximately 4km south of Werris Creek and 11km north-northwest of Quirindi in central northern New South Wales.
At Werris Creek, Marshall provided a complete mining service including mine design, drill and blast, overburden removal and coal mining in a complex geological setting. Coal was dispatched to Newcastle without washing, which requires particular attention to clean coal recovery techniques as part of the mining process.
Werris Creek Mine produces up to 1.5 million tonnes per annum as raw coal for the export market.
