Western Highway Realignment Alliance

Client:  VicRoads
Location:  Victoria
Start:  August 2009
Finish:  March 2012
Contract Type:  Construct (Alliance)
Value:  $134 million (at 30 June 2011)
Description:

John Holland, in an alliance with VicRoads and AECOM, has been selected to construct the new Western Freeway route between Melton and Bacchus Marsh, west of Melbourne. The realignment will extend south of the existing freeway and link Harkness Road at Melton West with Bacchus Marsh Road at Bacchus Marsh.

Construction will involve the delivery of a new interchange at Woolpack Road, which will provide connections on and off the Western Freeway. The interchange and associated road links will improve safety and freight movements between regional centres. It will also include local road overpasses linking Bulmans Road and Clarkes Road at Melton West with an overpass carrying Hopetoun Park Road across the freeway.

New major bridgeworks will also be delivered, carrying the freeway over Djerriwarrh Creek, Cowans Road and Pyrites Creek. A new bridge spanning the Lerderderg River will be constructed as part of the Woolpack Road extension. In response to community feedback, the alliance is investigating the opportunity of restoring access to Hopetoun Park Road.
