Markets/products

While construction remains a core skill, the Group has diversified into new markets based on its core contracting ability. The Group now targets four core markets: engineering and infrastructure, mining and resources, building and property, and operations and maintenance. In addition to traditional construction and contract mining activities, we are progressively undertaking more long-term operation and maintenance services in areas such as rail, resources, telecommunications and utilities.

Engineering and infrastructure

Across Australia and Asia, Group companies offer engineering and infrastructure services that include design, development, construction, and operation and maintenance, with a strong emphasis on transport-related projects.

Group companies are active in the major sectors within this market including roads, bridges, railways, airports, harbours, water storage and supply, sewerage and drainage, electricity generation, transmission and supply pipelines, telecommunications and heavy industry.

Mining and resources

Group companies have been involved in the mining and resources market since the 1940’s. Contract mining was one of the Group’s earliest product diversifications. As a result of our work for major resource companies throughout Australia and Indonesia, the Group is now recognised as the world’s largest contract miner.

Group companies often manage and operate mines for their lifetime and have been involved in developing new skills to conduct mining, processing, haulage and train load-out operations of coal, iron ore, gold, nickel and copper resources. Additionally, the Group constructs resources-related infrastructure and provides services to the oil and gas sector.

Building and property

The Group’s operating companies are highly regarded constructors in the non-residential building market, which includes commercial, manufacturing and processing, defence, correctional, health, retail, hotels, entertainment and sporting facilities. In Asia, the Group is also active in the residential building market.

Additionally, the Group has extensive property development and project management expertise, which uniquely positions it to take on significant developments across Australia.

Operations and maintenance

The Group’s companies provide a range of operation and maintenance (O&M) services for clients in the resources, property, heavy- and light-manufacturing and waste management markets. O&M services are also provided for road and rail transport infrastructure, as well as utilities infrastructure such as telecommunications, water, sewerage, electricity and gas.
