Question: What is JavaScript?
| | Answer: Invented by Netscape, JavaScript is a programming language which gives the web browser some extra capabilities. Common uses for JavaScript are "mouseovers", which are used to make images change when your mouse moves over them; and pop-up windows, which are used to make a smaller window appear on your screen in front of your main browsing window.
Some browsers, and some older versions of browsers, can't use JavaScript, or may not understand newer versions of JavaScript. However, this will not greatly affect your ability to view the website. The Leighton website uses JavaScript for mouseovers in the navigation and to control some aspects of display. |
Question: What are pop ups?
| | Answer: Pop ups are small windows that appear in the foreground of an Internet browser. They can appear for a variety of reasons including when an element on the screen is clicked upon or the mouse is moved over an item. Pop ups are generated through Javascript. When navigating the Leighton website when you open documents such as PDF’s, view webcasts or click on links to other websites, the information will be displayed in a new browser window. This is different to a pop up. The Leighton website does not use Pop ups. |

Question: How do I use the site search?
| | Answer: To use the site search facility, enter words that describe what you are searching for and click on “Go”. If no results are returned, try using a different word or phrase.
Once you have entered a word or phrase you can then do a more refined search by clicking on the relevant radio button categories. There is also an option to search “All words” or “Any words”.
When selecting “All words” a page must contain all the words to return a result. However, words may or may not be in the same order as the query.
When selecting “Any words” a page can contain any of the words from the query, in any order to return a result. This is a less precise search. This is also a broader search which usually returns many more results than searching for “all words”. |
Question: How do I print pages?
| | Answer: For best results when printing pages from our site, we suggest you select “portrait”, in the printer “page setup” options. For optimum results, use the “Print this page button” within the page to print that page. |
Question: How do I clear my cache?
| | Answer: Browsers have a "Temporary Internet Files" folder that stores previously visited pages in order to decrease the time it takes to load a page again. This is often called a cache. If the cache is full it may reload the stored page, which may not show you the most up to date version of the page. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, follow these steps to clear the cache:
- From “Tools” pull down menu, select “Internet Options”
- Under the “General” tab and in “Temporary Internet Files”, click on the “Delete Files” button
- Tick the box next to “Delete all offline content”
- Click “OK”
- Then click “OK” again to close the window
It is also a good idea to set the pages to refresh every time you view them. To do this: - From “Tools” pull down menu, select “Internet Options”
- Under the “General” tab click on “Settings”
- Select the radio button next to “Every visit to the page”
- Click “OK”
- Click “OK” again to close the window
