
A$180 Million Rail Project Awarded In Taiwan

The Taiwan Track Partners Joint Venture, of which Leighton Asia is a member, has been awarded an A$180 million (NT$3.4 billion) contract for the design and construction of rail trackwork for a key section of the Taiwan High Speed Rail Link. Leighton Asia’s share of the project is A$50 million (NT$945 million).
The project involves the design, supply and installation of 16 kilometres of twin track for the Taipei segment of the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation’s high speed rail line between Taipei and Kaohsiung.
Design will commence immediately with construction scheduled to start early next year. The project will be completed in July 2004.
The project further enhances Leighton Asia’s profile in the rail industry. The company currently has six other rail projects worth over A$1 billion throughout Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia.
The Taiwan Track Partners Joint Venture comprises Leighton Asia, Barclay Mowlem Construction Limited, Hsin Lung (Zen Pacific) Construction Corporation Limited, Heitkamp Rail Gmbh and Fu Tsu Construction Co. Limited.
