Dear Sir,
The Directors of Leighton Holdings Limited are pleased to announce that Mr John Morschel has agreed to join the Board in August 2001 following the retirement of Mr Rod Wylie. Initially Mr Morschel will be appointed a Deputy Chairman and, following the retirement of Mr M.A. (Tim) Besley at the Company’s Annual General Meeting on 8 November 2001, will be appointed Chairman.
Educated at Manly Boys’ School and the University of New South Wales, Mr Morschel was Chairman of Comalco Limited from 1998 to 2000 and will become Chairman of CSR Limited on 1 May 2001. He is also a non-executive director of Westpac Banking Corporation, Rio Tinto Ltd, Rio Tinto Plc – UK, Cable & Wireless Optus Ltd and Tenix Pty Limited.
Mr Morschel brings to the Board a wealth of experience in the Australian and international construction, property and finance sectors. He began his career with Civil & Civic and was Managing Director of Lend Lease from 1988 to 1995.
Mr Rod Wylie will also be retiring as Chairman of Thiess Pty Ltd in October 2001 and will be succeeded by Mr Martin Albrecht, who will be invited to join the Leighton Holdings Limited Board following the Company’s Annual General Meeting in November 2001.
