Leighton Asia Awarded A$100 million Coal Mining Contract in Indonesia

Leighton Asia, through its wholly owned subsidiary PT John Holland Constructions Indonesia, has been awarded a five year A$100 million (US$52 million) contract for mining operations at the ABK Loa Janan coal mine in East Kalimantan, Indonesia for PT Anugerah Bara Kaltim.

Under the contract, Leighton is responsible for the open cut mining of 6.7 million tonnes of coal over a five year period. The scope of work also includes the removal of overburden, the loading and transportation of coal from the mine site to the processing plant and stockpiles, and maintenance of the mine’s haul roads.

The project will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion by January 2006. 

The contract is the first awarded to PT John Holland Constructions Indonesia since Leighton Asia acquired the company in May this year. John Holland has two other current coal mining contracts in Indonesia – one at the Sebuku coal mine in South Kalimantan and another at Malinau coal mine in East Kalimantan.
