Leighton Asia wins A$100 million sewerage project in Hong Kong

Leighton Asia has been awarded an A$100 million (HK$426 million) contract for the construction of a new sewerage system in Hong Kong for the Hong Kong Government’s Drainage Services Department.

The project, to be undertaken in joint venture with Kumagai Gumi, involves the construction and commissioning of over four kilometres of trenchless sewers of various diameter between Wanchai and North Point.  Leighton Asia’s share of the project is A$50 million (HK$213 million).

It includes the construction of an additional 180 metres of open cut sewers and 75 metres of watermain, as well as 27 associated shafts and manholes ranging in depth from six to 20 metres.

The project will commence immediately and is scheduled for completion in December 2005.

It follows the new A$200 million housing project in Hong Kong Leighton Asia was awarded in March, and maintains the company’s work in hand at over A$1.5 billion.
