Leighton Contractors awarded $100 million contract to upgrade Albany grain terminal
Issue Date: 9 July 2004
Issued by: Leighton Contractors
Leighton Contractors will upgrade facilities at the Albany Grain Terminal for owner CBH Ltd under a contract worth $100 million.
Works include the design and construction of 10 new steel cells that will provide an additional 60,000 tonnes of storage capacity to the terminal along with upgrades to conveyors, grain elevators, and ship loaders. Dust control systems, mechanical instrumentation and electrical control systems will be also enhanced.
In addition, Leighton Contractors will improve transport access with the construction of upgraded rail facilities and new road in-loading facilities.
Leighton Contractors’ Western Australia General Manager, Ray Sputore said that: “the Albany Grain Terminal and CBH Ltd would benefit from the experienced project team and the relationship focus that Leighton Contractors brings to the project.”
“Together with CBH Ltd we will deliver, in an integrated high performance team environment, a bigger, better more efficient facility.”
When completed, the upgrade will deliver a quicker grain delivery process, greater operating efficiencies, a safer work environment and additional shipping capacity. The terminal, originally built in 1956, has already been upgraded and extended several times. Work will begin on the site this month and take just under two years to complete.
Leighton Contractors is an Australian market leader in the delivery of complex infrastructure, project development, contract mining and construction. The company has in excess of $2 billion worth of work in hand and employs approximately 1,800 people.
