Alliance Arrangement Gets Go Ahead for Stage One of Port of Brisbane Motorway
Issue Date: 15 October 2001
Issued by: Leighton Contractors Pty Limited
Queensland’s Transport and Main Roads Minister, Steve Bredhauer today announced the Port of Brisbane Motorway Alliance have been awarded the $112 million main contract for stage one of the Port of Brisbane Motorway.
The unique private/public alliance arrangement will deliver the major works for Stage one including the design and construction of five kilometres of motorway, 14 major new bridges, a multi-level interchange over the Gateway Motorway, modification to four existing bridges, heavy duty pavements and embankments over soft ground.
The Port of Brisbane Motorway Alliance, comprising Queensland Motorways Limited, Leighton Contractors Pty Limited, PPK Environment and Infrastructure and Coffey Geosciences Pty Ltd, was formed expressly to deliver this project with a philosophy that focuses all parties on achieving common objectives to attain a ‘win-win’ result.
Leighton Contractors’ General Manager Laurie Voyer said, “The Alliance partners are pleased to be involved in this project for the benefit of all Queenslanders. Our joint technical skills and experience will assist in ensuring first class transport solutions continue to be delivered.”
“All members of the Alliance team perform a role in delivering the project. Leighton Contractors is undertaking project management and construction, while PPK carries out design, environment and community consultation, and Coffey Geosciences is responsible for geotechnical and pavement design,” Mr Voyer said.
Queensland Motorways Limited will own and operate the Port of Brisbane Motorway, with stage one design underway and construction expected to begin late 2001 and be completed by early 2003.
The Port of Brisbane Motorway is a critical infrastructure component of the Australia TradeCoast initiative to transform Brisbane’s “ports” precinct into a major global trade and industry hub on the East Coast of Australia.
The Motorway will provide a more efficient route for commercial vehicles travelling between the Gateway Motorway and the Port of Brisbane.
