Leighton Contractors wins $170 million mining project in Western Australia

Leighton Contractors today announced that BHP Billiton Iron Ore has awarded the company a new $170 million contract at its Yarrie-Nimingarra iron ore mining operation in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The new 33 month contract is an extension of a previously existing contract managed by Leighton Contractors for the past four years.

The site team comprises about 200 personnel.  The team have begun working on the open pit iron mine which is expected to target 16.1 million bcm of ore and overburden over the 33 month period.

Leighton Contractors Managing Director, Bob Merkenhof said, "We’re very pleased to be continuing our work at the Yarrie site for BHP Billiton Iron Ore. Our earlier work at this site was productive and delivered good results by maintaining a close working relationship with the BHP Billiton Iron Ore team.
