The Directors of Leighton Holdings Limited are pleased to confirm as previously announced, that following the retirement of Mr Tim Besley at today’s AGM, Mr John Morschel was appointed Chairman of the Board of Leighton Holdings and Mr Martin Albrecht was appointed a Director of the Company.

Mr Martin Albrecht recently retired as Managing Director of Thiess Pty Ltd.  He joined Thiess in July 1984 as Operations Manager, Northern States, and was appointed Managing Director in May 1985. He retired as CEO on October 30th, 2000 but remained a director of the Company and was appointed Chairman in October 2001.

During his 15 years tenure as CEO, the Company grew ten-fold, into one of Australia’s largest multi-disciplined construction and engineering services companies, offering clients fully integrated engineering solutions.  With current work in hand exceeding $4 billion, Thiess employs over 6,000 people and has operations located throughout Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, principally Indonesia, and more recently, in South America.  

Thiess offers clients a unique range of expertise in the areas of Mining, Civil Engineering, Building, Process Engineering, Environmental Services, Telecommunications and Facilities Management.

Mr Albrecht is also a director of Portman Limited, Qld Gas Company Limited and Chairman of Geodynamics Limited.  He is also a former Associate Director, Leighton Holdings Limited.

He was a foundation Board Member Australian Constructors Association; Director, German-Australian Chamber of Industry and Commerce; Member, Sir James Foots Institute of Mineral Resources Council of The University of Queensland; Queensland Committee Member, Australian Quality Council,

Former Member of Federal Government Construction Industry Development Agency, Former Member, Queensland Government Occupational Health and Safety Council and Chairman of the Queensland Government Landmark Building Taskforce.

Mr Albrecht continues to take an active interest in a wide range of community organisations.  He is patron of the Brisbane Regional Youth Orchestra, past Chairman of St Peters College Foundation and Member of School Council.
