Marstel Announce Leighton Contractors as Project Developer for New Coode Is. Project
Issue Date: 07 November 2001Issued By: Marstel TerminalsMarstel Terminals has appointed Leighton Contractors Pty Limited to design and construct a new $54 million bulk liquids storage facility on Coode Island five kilometres west of the Melbourne CBD on the Maribyrnong River.
The new storage facility works are part of the redevelopment and upgrade of hazardous bulk liquids storage on Coode Island. This facility, replaces an existing storage terminal, comprises 36 chemical storage tanks and will be built on a 3.5 hectare site. Construction is expected to commence in early 2002 and will be completed by mid 2003. The project will create about 130 local jobs.

We can now move forward with the detailed engineering and design phase, and finalise the EPA Works Approval Application, in consultation with our community consultative group, the MCG (Marstel Consultative Group).”
Marstel Terminals recently signed a long-term lease for the Coode Island site with Melbourne Port Corporation.
