New Chairman for Leighton Asia

Leighton Asia Limited today announced that prominent Hong Kong businessman Dr Nai Keong (Nicky) Chan has been appointed Chairman of the company.

Dr Chan is a member of the Preparatory Committee responsible for the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. A Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE), he is also a former Hong Kong Secretary for Lands and Works.

Dr Chan has more than 40 years experience in various senior management roles in both the public and private sector. He has been a Director of Leighton Asia Limited since 1990.

"Dr Chan's appointment is a major boost for Leighton Asia," said Mr John Faulkner, Managing Director of Leighton Asia Limited.

"His knowledge, management experience and high profile in the Hong Kong business community will be of great benefit to the company.

"He has served with distinction on our Board since 1990 and been a part of the company's unprecedented growth over the past few years," he said.

Between 1986 and 1989, Dr Chan was Managing Director of an international investment company and Joint Deputy Chairman of a major utility company in Hong Kong. In 1994 he was appointed by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as a Hong Kong Affairs adviser.

In addition to being on the board of several publicly listed companies, Dr Chan is currently consultant and Chairman Emeritus of consulting engineers Parsons Brinckerhoff (Asia) Ltd. He is also a Fellow of a number of societies, including the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK, the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences, the Hong Kong institution of Engineers, the UK Institution of Civil Engineers and the UK Institution of Structural Engineers.

Dr Chan replaces Sir Gordon Macwhinnie who retired from the Leighton Asia Board after more than six years as Chairman.
