New Managing Director for Leighton Contractors

Leighton Holdings Limited today announced that Mr Bob Merkenhof had been promoted to the position of Managing Director, Leighton Contractors Pty Limited, following the retirement of Mr Keith Bennett.

Leighton Holdings' Chief Executive, Mr Wal King, said that Bob Merkenhof has been with Leighton Contractors for 18 years and has the depth of experience required to take on the responsibility of managing one of the Group's major operating companies.

"Bob has an excellent understanding of the contracting business as well as a thorough understanding of our approach to the market," said Mr King.

"He started with Leighton Contractors in 1980 as a project manager and worked his way through the ranks in NSW to become responsible for all building works in the State before taking up the position of General Manager, Western Australia in 1996.

"I would also like to thank Keith Bennett for his significant contribution to the Group over his 28 years with Leighton Contractors and as a member of the Leighton Holdings Board," said Mr King.

Mr Merkenhof will take up the position of Managing Director effective Monday 7 September. He also has been appointed to the Group's Executive Committee.
