Vytel Wins $338 million Telstra Contracts
Issue Date: 14 September 2000Issued By: Vytel Pty LimitedVytel Pty Limited, a Leighton Contractors operating company, continues to be a significant supplier of telecommunications infrastructure services with its subsidiary Visionstream Australia Pty Ltd, winning Telstra contracts worth $338 million in Sydney and Melbourne to design, maintain and upgrade the carrier’s Customer Access Network.
The three year contracts won by Visionstream are some of the largest awarded by Telstra and are part of its new management plan to consolidate contracted access network activity.
Visionstream will begin its maintenance and upgrading contracts of Telstra’s network to facilitate the carrier’s high speed data services.
The contracts will commence 1 October 2000 and involve a diverse range of services across large areas of metropolitan Sydney North Shore & North Central and Melbourne Central and South. The services include civil works, broadband field services, cross connect units, jointing, cable laying, CAN electronics, new estates work, pre-provisioning, pole installation and maintenance, network maintenance and optical fibre works.

Visionstream has been delivering network services to Telstra in all States across Australia for the past five years. The company is currently providing design, construction and maintenance services to Reef Network, a $80 million optic fibre project between Brisbane and Cairns. From early next year, Visionstream will commence design and construction of the $850 million fibre optic cable network project for Nextgen Networks Pty Ltd.
